10 Proven Ways to Motivate Yourself to Work Out

In a time of global pandemic, nation wide and municipal lock-downs, business closures have affected us all far and wide! You've found yourself consuming more Netflix, and scrolling endlessly through social media accounts to fill that void in your day where fitness once lived. Some of us are even fortunate enough to have landed in a rare spot of having gym equipment at home, this includes; free weights, resistance bands, a bench press, a bosu or yoga ball - whatever resources you have are futile if you've lost the motivation to move!

We polled others like us around the world for unique ways they get motivated to move and persevere through boredom, loneliness, depression, or those dreary days of low self-esteem. You'll NEVER regret having worked-out, and you'll sleep much better the night of!

Here are 10 Proven Ways to Motivate Yourself to Work-Out at Home!

10. Use the app Zombies, Run!

Download the App, create a profile and run in the real world as simulated zombies close in behind you! By far one of our favorite ways to get motivated and STAY motivated. The best part of this app is that you can still listen to music or an audiobook in the background!

9. Surround Yourself with Motivational Affirmations!

One of the best ways to boost your motivation is to train your subconscious! Believe it or not these work for anything you'd like to change or re-calibrate in your life, write it down on a post-it and place it somewhere you'll see often - like a bathroom mirror, speak the words aloud every time you see that reminder! Don't take our word for it, check out this Huffington Post article on it! Best to start with the two most powerful words "I am" followed by a positive message of what you aspire to be/do, for optimal results repeat aloud often and daily for 21 days solid.

8. Wear Your Work-Out Clothes!

That's right, put on your work-out leggings or active wear that you'd usually reserve for fitness! Unless you're someone who lives day-to-day life wearing active wear, this can be more motivating than you think! Try it out!

 7. Set a Timer!

The age old counting down aloud "5-4-3-2-1 and GO!" really ignites your brain into action! "Just start counting backwards to yourself: 5-4-3-2-1. The counting will focus you on the goal or commitment and distract you from the worries, thoughts, and excuses in your mind. As soon as you reach “1” – push yourself to move." - Mel Robbins

6. Take Epic Pictures!

That's right, do it for the gram. Set a goal for the end of your training session or during a run outdoors to take an incredible flexing pic of either nature or your legs. Ego biscuits are just as tasty! Our suggestion for taking a next level selfie is to set your phone on video mode, place it somewhere sturdy, back up into frame and action! Next, take a screenshot of your ultimate action pose! This works wonders for us pole dancers at home.

5. Use Household Items as Weights!

Why go to the gym to lift weights, when you can stay home and get a full body workout? Fill an old purse/re-usable cloth bag with rocks or textbooks, squat all the way down with a wide stance and finish with lifting with your shoulders up to your chin. The objective is to consciously utilize the activated muscle group! So focus on each muscle as you go down, and up. This is highly beneficial for conditioning or warming up for pole dance fitness.

4. Track Your Progress!

Fitness Journals are key components to successfully increasing your muscle mass, toning down or targeting short and long term fitness goals. Pole dancing is firmly rooted in goals, we aspire to nail that one pose and work backwards from there to get it! Keep a written record of your progress to see how far you've come when you get there, you'll thank yourself when you do!

3. Call a High Energy Friend!

Attitudes are contagious! Whenever you're feeling unmotivated, one of the best things you can do to increase your energy is call up that one friend with seemingly boundless energy who you can rely on to motivate you! Let them know you're about to start a workout and need a pep talk to get started, otherwise the conversation could go any direction and you'll be right back where you started. Keep it brief!
